Muhammad Silmi is a manager of Biodiversity Division in palm oil plantation (United Plantations – PT Surya Sawit Sejati). This company located in central of Borneo province where land recognized rich biodiversity Tropical Island. He holds a crucial role to ensure the integration and mainstreaming the environmental concerns and conservation into the company’s standard operational practices. He obtained a bachelor degree from Biology department of Andalas University. He also awarded a post graduatescholarshipbyFordFoundationonIntegratedNaturalResourcesManagement. Heis passionate on study of ecological function in the agricultural landscape. Currently, he conducts a study on habitat use of leopard cat and king cobra, Sumatran cobra using radio telemetry in the palm oil landscape. It aims to determine the size and configuration of protected areas needed to conserve biodiversity in areas where the demand for agricultural lands is high.
